What am I noticing as I serve teams and individuals

Dear community

I spend usually an hour getting my thoughts together and often have a 30 minute chat with my own coach, to help me balance my energy for the week ahead.

Here's 3 things I talked to Shermain about

What I notice with the leaders I am serving...

Situation A:

Senior leaders have bandwidth taken by redundancy processes, cashflow and trying to find jobs for their staff going to be made redundant. Their focus on care and support for others, while often neglecting their own wellness.

Situation B:

Those who hold a job, are full with of noise, guilt, doubt, questions like “Are we next?” Fear is there, overwhelm also creeping in, and expanding into their personal lives. Many feel, under pressure, and constantly assessed. Work becomes slower because there is soooo much noise.

Situation C:

Those usually fighting for or voicing out towards justice are finding it hard to regulate. Emotions, rage, grief or apathy, are coursing through their bodies. They lose their compass. Without regulation it's hard for them to see their true power and calling, and come from heart. They hesitate in speaking up or fighting how they usually do. Worry is there. Big sighs all trhe time. They either have loads of energy or super tired.

Why do I say this?

A lot my work right now has been about regulation.

About moving from survival to being in community.

From isolation to connection.

From chaos to clarity.

Take one step into your week

  1. Email me for a copy of my book (in pre-release stage) - Courage in Anxious Times
  2. Request access to this document - 10 take aways from John Amaechi’s group coaching on day-to-day management of uncertainty
  3. I'm going to run a 100 days of regulation sessions, covering day-to-day management, purpose and power and regulation and co-regulation. Can you put me in touch with your manager or directors, to get your team on this programme?

And...Situation D...

Situation D: Eli has been playing this in the car today, he got player of the week at Tigers (rugby), not because he scored lots of tries, not becuase he took loads of tackles, not because he's aggressive... because he shows up, fills the gaps when no one else is looking, keeps moving and is totally laid back about the games.

The coach said 'he keeps pushing forward, keeps going no matter'.

He's the perfect model of quiet confident leadership.

Thank you for inspiring me Eli.

What's a song that will energise you this week?

Dear community I feel there are many people going through some kind of relationship ending right now, whether that’s: Work and redundancies Marriage and partnerships Friendships Or even a former version of yourself. In the past year: I separated from my beautiful ex-wife, Mia. I ended contracts. I stepped away from friendships. I let go of parts of myself and who I thought I was. Sometimes these endings were quiet. Sometimes they were filled with anger. Sometimes I played the barrister....

Dear community Saturday was epic. Six hours in nature with social impact leaders and directors. We created space. Reoriented the compass. Cultivated energy for life and impact. Energy. Clarity. Space. Those were the goals. Interestingly, all men. A small intimate group of director-level men. That felt powerful. Men in social impact, taking time to reflect, be still, go deep emotionally, AND be playful! It doesn’t happen enough. I know many of you can't make it to the retreat space, so I...

Dear community I’ve spoken to so many amazing people over the last two weeks, and here are some threads I’m noticing… There’s a lack of driven purpose, a sense of taking things day-by-day (survival mode), and a lot of energy spent just trying to stay regulated. Do you see how the lack of purpose and being in survival mode are linked? Money is a big worry for many right now, especially with the risk of job loss looming. Some organisations are offering counselling services, but they’re not...
